A LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN.....
October 12, 2006
I welcome you to this website on behalf of the Anderson County Fire Protection District Board of Trustees.
The District was formed in 1983 as a result of a consolidation of the five fire departments that provided coverage in the county. It is authorized by state law to operate the Anderson County Fire Department. The Fire department is comprised of stations in Springtown (Station 1). Alton (Station 2), Glensboro (Station 3), Western (Station 4), and Beaver Lake (Station 5).
The Board of Trustees is made up of seven members. Three members are named by the Anderson County Judge Executive and serve a three- year term. Two members are selected by the firefighters by election and also serve a three- year term. Anderson County residents who own property in the area protected by the Fire Department are represented by two Freeholder positions. They are elected by the residents to a four- year term. Assistance is given by an attorney, a recorder and a bookkeeper.
Funding for the operation of the Department comes from taxes levied by the Fire District on property within the County which receives protection from the Fire District. That tax is levied annually by the Board of Trustees to fund the Department’s operating budget.
Some of the areas that have been addressed by the Board of Trustees include but are not limited to:
a. the purchase of three new tankers to replace rolling stock that had become obsolete,
b. the purchase of a new communications system that will increase efficiency in reporting and tracking activities of the Department,
c. the purchase of additional insurance coverage for firefighters and members of the Auxiliary in the event of injury as a result of fire-related activities.
Future plans include the purchase of 2 new engines, 1 tanker and 2 brush trucks. In addition, we plan to renovate or replace some of the stations. A three- year and a five- year plan are being finalized to give more direction to the planning of the District’s activity.
As you can see, we are a growing department that strives to constantly improve service to the community that we serve. If you have a desire to become a part of this highly trained organization, I urge you to contact a firefighter or department office to procure an application. We’d be glad to welcome you to our family.
Sincerely Yours,
Peter L. Miller
Chairman
Anderson County Fire Protection District
